Clark Kent (Christopher Reeve), decides to reveal himself to Lois Lane (Margot Kidder) that he is Superman. In order to live a normal life with the woman he loves, he gives up his role of saving the world from criminals. Meanwhile, three villains who were sentenced to outer space, Non (Jack O'Halloran), Ursa (Sarah Douglas) and, General Zod (Terence Stamp), have all escaped and plan to rule the earth. Lex Luthor (Gene Hackman) has also escaped from prison. Loving Lois proves to be the last thing Clark can get around to until they use her to get him to come to battle with them. So, Clark has no choice but to return as Superman to face his rivals who want to do battle with him.
