The movie is a two-part retelling of the anime series Neon Genesis Evangelion. Mysterious monsters known as ‘angels’ arrive to terrorize the citizens of Tokyo-3. The angels come in many forms, from giant rampaging monsters, to microscopic cells that can take over a computer system. The only thing that can defeat the angels are the clandestine organization known as NERV and their main weapons, giant biomechanical robots known as Evangelion. Shinji Ikari is the estranged son of NERV director Gendo Ikari and perhaps the only one who can pilot the Evangelion and save the planet. The first part of the movie: Death, is told from the perspective of fellow robot pilot Rei Ayunami as the first thirteen angels threaten to attack the city from land, sea and in the air. There are many famous scenes from the TV series and some new scenes from different perspectives mixed in with the originals. The second part of the movie is called ‘Rebirth’ and picks up where the TV series ends. NERV is under siege by the Japanese military and the final angels are attacking. NERV must stop the angel attack by uniting the mysterious creatures named ‘Adam’ and ‘Lillith.’ But will the final sequence stop the end of the world or will it be the cause of it?
