In "Blade," the first film in an eventual trilogy, the title character played by Wesley Snipes is "daywalker," a half-human, half-vampire who has dedicated his life to the eradication of the vampire race. Blade's mother was bitten by a vampire when she was pregnant--as a result, Blade has all of the typical vampire's extra-human abilities but none of their weaknesses (such as sunlight); however, he also has a vampire's lust for blood, which he controls with the help of his friend and ally, Whistler (Kris Kristofferson). Blade's nemesis in this movie is Deacon Frost (Stephen Dorff), an upstart, charismatic young (well, relatively speaking) vampire who would rather rule the world than maintain the current uneasy coexistence of vampires and humans. Frost and his minions plan to awaken an ancient vampire god who will eradicate humanity once and for all. Blade, working with Whistler and Karen Jenson must stop this from happening.
