The Cat Returns is the story of Haru Yoshioka (Chizuru Ikewaki), a young girl who is kidnapped by the Cat King (Tetsuro Tamba). In return for saving his sons’ life the king wants Haru to marry his son, Prince Lune (Takayuki Yamada). Out of nowhere a voice tells Haru to find Muta (Tetsu Watanabe), a cat who will take her to the Cat Bureau. Haru is then introduced to the Baron von Gikkingen (Yoshihiko Hakamada), the owner of the Cat Bureau. However, before she can accept the Barons help the cat kings’ minions whisk her away to their kingdom. After being taken to the Cat Kingdom, Haru begins to transform into a cat. She soon meets Yuki (Aki Maeda), the owner of the mysterious voice which told her to find the Cat Bureau. Meanwhile, Baron attempts to rescue Haru from the Cat King and a chase ensues through a maze and up a tower. Prince Lune appears and tries to stop his father by telling him he loves Yuki not Haru. Haru finally makes it back to the human world and as she is saying her goodbyes she tells the Baron that she has a crush on him.
