Kate Moseley (Moira Kelly) is a pairs skater without a partner, recovering from a mistake at the 1988 Olympics that put her team out of contention for the gold medal she's been training her entire life to win. Doug Dorsey (D. B. Sweeney) is an ex-hockey player, sidelined from the sport for good after an eye injury he sustained during the same 1998 Olympic games. Doug never had any intention of becoming a figure skater, and Kate had made a science of intimidating and rejecting any potential partners. However, her coach, Anton Pamchenko (Ray Dotrice) sees potential in Doug and persuades him to come to Kate's private rink for a trial. Doug's stubbornness is just the thing to match Kate's unrelenting, demanding nature, and as they begin to train in earnest for the next Olympic games, they also forge a strange and unique relationship with each other.
