The thief Phillipe “Mouse” Gaston (Matthew Broderick) has escaped from jail and is fleeing the guards when he encounters a mysterious knight named Captain Navarre (Rutger Hauer). The two end up becoming friends and accompanies the knight and his remarkably loyal hawk. But at night Mouse finds himself traveling with the Lady Isabeau (Michelle Pfeiffer) and her remarkably loyal wolf. It turns out the two have been cursed by an evil bishop. Navarre is only man by day and Isabeau is only woman at night so the two are forced to be forever separate except at dawn. Mouse helps the two overcome the curse and let the two lovers truly reunite.
